It doesn't happen that often, but it's always a strange feeling when you get ready to lay out an obituary page and glance through the names just to realize someone you knew or went to high school with is on the list with all the 70 year olds. None of us are getting any younger, but it's definitely not something you expect to see when we're all just looming around 30.
The first word that came to mind was "meth." It could have been cance or a Venture Brothers-style gas leak, but meth fits the times and the region far better. Not that it matters or that I give a damn. What's done is done. She wasn't a bad girl when I was around her though. She probably deserved better.
(Ever get the feeling I'm not all that into people or sentimentality?)
Some people would probably see something like that and take it as a sign to take stock and "get their life straight," but I'm perfectly content with my life as it is. I don't need a wife or a kid to justify my existence, even if I am turning 31 in a couple of weeks. I'm fine with who I am.
