You get busy for a couple of days and then it takes all your battery power to check email and reply to new friends' postings. . .
We made it to VEGAS!! (If I was slick, I'd insert a picture of that "Welcome to Vegas" sign here, but I'm not, so use your imagination.) The first thing about Vegas is the cheese factor (yeah, I know "duh"). The primary example is that we're flying in and we can see the Luxor (where we're staying) a lovely black glass pyramid rising in the midst of towers and neon. It has the potential to be classic and mysterious, but instead it has a HUGE Absolut vodka ad plastered to it that you can read from the landing plane.
The second thing about Vegas is the landscape--from the air it looks like Denver did the other week (scrubby w/mountains) but then you land and see that it's a lot like S.Calif w/palm trees and weird bushes (well, weird if you're used to the flora of the rest of the country). Except it's not quite right--you get the feeling that the palm trees and stuff have been imported and while they're doing fine, it doesn't quite look right.
The third thing about Vegas is the ADHD factor. Now, I've never been diagnosed, but the people surrounding me tell me that I definitely have some ADHD characteristics. This place is like a total dream or nightmare for the ADHD person. There's a million things to read and look at and noises and smells and people and . . . I was enjoying this until I had to go back to the concierge and ask the rest of my questions and still had to ask
Schiavona what I was supposed to be asking because I can't keep a thought in my head for more than a second.
We haven't really done much yet--yesterday started out really early and involved a long plane flight and we're all exhausted from the run up to getting here. Lucked into a fabulous Italian restaurant off the strip last night and had some spectacular calamari and pasta. Today we're going to try to track down some cheap tickets for shows and maybe do some shopping. (Maybe do the rollercoaster at NYNY.) I'm really curious to see how hard it is on the groupt to just wander through this much noise, lights, people and cigarette smoke.
