Hello friends,
Lots of news - some exciting, some extremely inconvenient.
First off, I spent a night in Kerr Park in OKC, occupying in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street. I had a good time and got to enjoy the company of people who are as concerned about the state of things as much as I am.
On my way back from the city my car started making a loud, grinding, whirring noise, and I saw out of my rear-view mirror that there were billows of gray smoke trailing behind. I pulled over and popped the hood, more smoke. My friend that I was carpooling with had to be in court within a matter of a few hours. My phone was dead but he had his. He called his mom to pick him up and take him home so he wouldn't miss court. I stayed behind with the car so I wouldn't get ticketed.
I had spoken to my mom before my friend left, so she knew where I was and that my car was broken down. I waited there on the side of I-35 for three hours before my dad and my brother showed up to take me back to Stillwater. My mom had one of the regulars at the diner go tow my car back to his place so he could figure out what's wrong with it.
It's bad. This guy was the same guy who last changed my oil and fluids, probably a month to two months ago. He told my mom that all of the fluids were dried up and there was no water in the engine, so it pretty much just burnt up. He said it would cost $800 for the damage he knew of. I appreciate this guy's help, he's always cheap and quick to pick up your car when something's wrong with it. However, often times it comes back with a different problem than when you brought it in to him.
I don't have $800. I don't even have $8 until Friday. Sigh.
I'm going to just sell my car for fucking pieces, I guess. The only reason I've needed it lately is so I can get to OKC and Tulsa, but I remedied that last night. If I decide to, I might buy a cheap, used car when my school money gets back next semester.. but on the other hand, I may just be better off saving my money by not having a car at all, and it will save my mom some money on car insurance. I'd rather go on a trip this summer than have a car that I really don't need anyway.
So, like I said, I only really need a car so I can get to Occupy OKC and Tulsa. I bought a round-trip bus ticket to OKC that leaves at 10:25 am today, gets back around noon on Sunday. $30! Not bad, eh?
I'm going to be staying in the park over the weekend, helping show my support for Occupy Wall Street.
I'll update you guys when I get back.
Love,
Kirsten
