I feel driven to write about what happened to me last night.
I woke up around 11 o'clock after dozing off around 9, to find that my bedroom was unusually stuffy and hot. I got up and realized all the fans were off and my A/C was off: the power had gone out during some mild rainstorms.
I can't sleep when I'm hot, so I tried to lay down in the living room because it typically gets more air flow. Suddenly, I hear someone walk in my neighbor's door and up the stairs to his apartment door. I assumed it was my neighbor because I hadn't heard anyone up there until then. Then I hear a girl's voice and incessant pounding on the door,"Justin! Justin, let me in! Please! If you're there, let me in - PLEASE!" Over and over and over again. I guess she decides he's not there and goes back down the outside steps. I can hear everything she's saying as she drunkenly talks to a girlfriend, telling her it's okay if her and her boyfriend want to "do it" in her bed because she just washed the sheets and they're not dirty. Uh, okay? That's kinda weird, but whatever.
She talks about the events leading up to her winding up on my neighbor's steps, which include getting super drunk, getting hungry and walking to Coney Island, and then walking to my neighbor's apartment because she wanted to "talk things over." From what it sounded like, she was totally naive and hopeful that if she stayed there, they would talk things out but if she waited until tomorrow, he wouldn't answer her calls and meet with her to talk, and it wouldn't work out.
So, she sits out there until my neighbor arrives and/or decides to let her in? I'm not sure whether he was there the whole time or not, but eventually he let her in. That's when it started. All I hear is the girl crying, yelling from the stairway, "No, Justin, stop!" as he proceeds to throw shit around his apartment - loudly - and punch walls? from the sound of it. He didn't hurt the girl, but was simply throwing a fit because the electricity went out. He storms downstairs - loudly - stomping and slamming doors, walks around the back of the house to where the breakers are. He flips them on and off a few times, then apparently calls the electric company. It went a little something like this:
"I PAY MY FUCKING ELECTRIC BILLS, I'M SICK OF THE POWER ALWAYS GOING OUT! IF YOU DON'T TURN MY SHIT BACK ON, I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD.. TURN MY SHIT BACK ON! TURN MY SHIT BACK ON! IF YOU DON'T TURN MY SHIT BACK ON, I'M GOING TO BURN THIS MOTHERFUCKER DOWN! TURN MY SHIT BACK ON! TURN MY SHIT BACK ON!" All of this was screamed right outside my back window. Then he stormed back upstairs and continued to throw a fit.
Eventually, it got quiet and a loud truck full of his drunken friends picks him and the girl up and they leave. And it's quiet. The electricity came on shortly before they left, and I turned the A/C on, crawled into bed, and finally dozed off.
How ridiculous is that, though? And what's even more unusual is he's not a douchebag or an asshole when I've ever spoken to him. He's always very polite, friendly, and casual. I guess that's what happens when you get shit-faced and a girl you don't want to see shows up pounding on your door.. while your electricity is out.
I don't know, not much of an excuse, seeing as I didn't fucking do anything to him and they spent about an hour causing a huge fucking ruckus above and around my apartment.
I hate college kids.
