You know, a couple of days ago I was watching a movie on VH1 to celebrate black history month. You know what movie VH1, the self appointed stewards of African American historic reflection showed that day? Bevery Hill Cop. Wow.
Of course I watched it, I loved BHC, but I wonder how VH1 can show that movie, and say it's to celebrate black history month with a straight face?
I'm not even for a black history month, It's a relic of the black nationalism movement in the 1970s, bit of media/education policy that was sorely needed at that time. It was a socio-cultural shot in the arm of the American consciousness when almost no citings of important African Americans were found. Such cites now are perverlent, even homogenized in the public eye, and such a thing now are only used for commericalized purposes, vis-a-vis showing an Eddie Murphy movie, tagging it as in honor of black history month, and then showing commercials that target the projected black audience that would be supposedly be seeing the film (concidering that I did sit down and watch it, that projection may be valid).
On the other hand, I do like Beverly Hills Cop.
