I've just been informed by M0unds that one of my heroes has been murdered. Dimebag Darryl. His guitar playing rivaled the best ever, and he was gunned down by some asshole at a nightclub on Dec 8th 2004. What plays in my head now isn't all of the music I've grown up listening to, or the numerous times I've seen him in concert. What plagues me is what has been stolen from the world. Dimebag wasn't just a part of metal, he was the backbone. His artform was unorthodox, fast, and electrifying. Through the progression of the Pantera albums Dimebag's guitar playing was always changing, always improving. He never put out an album that sounded like the last, up to and including his last with Damageplan. As a guitar player it sickens me. The music that will never be written. The concerts that won't happen. Wow, that fucks me up. He was one of the few people I wanted to meet in my life.
