KAUAI, HAWAII
So this past Monday thru Friday I went to Kauai. I'd never been there before so it was an exciting thought, the only odd factor is that I was going with my ex-girlfriend because we planned the trip before the breakup. (It wasn't a vicious, angry breakup or anything, we're civil)
Here's how it all went...
We took the MAX to PDX airport in Portland and got ourselves ona muthafuckin' plane.
We rented a cottage from a nice couple on the south side of the island. This was the view from the back door.
(they left us fresh picked bananas from the property)
From there we went to a place recommended by the owner call "Da Crack" for a quick bite and hit the beach to eat, take a quick swim and watch the sunset.
The next day we went on a short hike to try and find a sinkhole we had read about in one of the guides we had. Of course there were beach views.
The sinkhole was frankly disappointing (hence no pictures) so we moved on to a Waimea Canyon. (the Grand Canyon of the Pacific or something)
Past the Canyon we found a trailhead called Awa Awapuhi so we thought we should go hiking. The part of the trail we really wanted to hit was closed but we took some pictures of the 4 miles we did.
On Wednesday we planned a hike to the Hanakapi'ai Falls. Here's the map.
Had some awesome high cliff views of the Na Pali coast.
There was a beach at the halfway point where bunches of people have stacked rocks (natually, I made a stack out there too)
Then we moved on to the Waterfall- we also saw lots of trees and got ourselves some guavas along the way.
We could swim under the waterfall (it was FREEZING!!)
Also, on the way back and still about 2 miles into the jungle we saw a stray cat.
A lookout point over a wildlife refuge on the way back to the cottage.
Our last full we spent just hitting up beaches. We even got to do some snorkeling.
So.... that's the trip. It was a great time. I got major blisters from hiking and them gruesome sunburns on my back from snorkeling. A good time was had by all.
