It is amazing to me that the world gets by as well as it does. Seriously. This is not the first time this has happened, but one of the many phone calls I got to (related to the rescue) was from an adult woman, with children, who wanted to know what she should do about her rabbit's broken leg.
And she sounded shocked when I said rahter curtly, "You need to take the rabbit to a vet who sees rabbits immediately."
"Can I do anyhting at home?"
Um, I wanted to say - Yes, please give yourself a hysterectomy you stupid fucking breeder, but I said:
"Well, an animal is just like a human, when it is injured it needs medical attention."
to which she said
"It is too expensive. . ."
There are many replies top this, trust me, I have tried most of them. What I said instead was:
"What is your phone number? I will try to locate a local rescuer to pick the rabbit up and take it to the vet..."
She interrupted to ask if she would get the rabbit back...
"Well, once he is healed and you pay us back for the vet bill, we can talk about the bunny's future."
I did find someone to pick up the bunny (my rescue's paying the vet bills) - but trust me, the rabbit is not going back there: SHE will not want it.
So. Assmonkeys everywhere.
Go figure.
Here's to anohter day above ground...
