so.
i am glad my self apologia had the desired effect, at least on those who read it. i won't let you down!
ten minutes after i read the new carissa's wierd, scrap book, was available in record stores, and not just on tour as i previously thought, i was out the door. that's the time it took to find a nearby record store that would have it and fill my rio with walking music. in the course of that search, i finally found some good pictures of jenn ghetto, including this one. sigh. anyway, now i am listening to it, and while a final judgment will have to wait for another day, i do have thoughts on some cd's to which i have finally been able to devote some attention while at work:
the shins, oh, inverted world: pop, equally informed by the beatles and weezer. too happy to ever be my favorite cd, but it's quite good, especially "new slang".
the white stripes, elephant: my mom bought me this, because she felt i "had to hear it". that's how much my mom rules. and, cthulhu bless her, she was right. jack white proves himself immensely more talented, in both songwriting and musicianship, than the rest of the "new garage" bands he was so unfortunately lumped in with.
the mars volta, de-loused in the comatorium: ahh, the best of the bunch. incidentally, i love it when people reveal their hidden dimensions. my supervisor at the place where i'm currently working, who's fifty if he's a day, asked me what i was listening to, and i told him this, assuming he would leave it at that. instead, he starts telling me about the music he likes, which includes tool, deftones, mudvayne, and king crimson; and while i can't agree with all those choices, i've gotta respect someone his age who enjoys that range of music. i let him borrow my copy of this cd. i really, really like it.
dave attell, skanks for the memories: no redeeming social value whatsoever. but goddamn, it's funny.
also, a list of things i got today, in decidedly unchronological order:
scrap book - $10.87
knit wool cap - free (found on street)
loveseat - free (found on street)
allen wrench, wrong size - free
book full of photographs of an empty office complex - free
my life is enriched with stuff.
