So, this is all I have to do to submit my story:
This American Life Submissions
I have been procrastinating on this, in part because Cameron is all about promoting the 20th aniversary of Say Anything a fuck load these days...and partially because I might be sort of a pussy in the full on coming to terms that we are blowing this shit up. Now. I still get sort of nauseous thinking about this aspect of my life.
I keep trying to write the submission in my head - but I unfortunately I don't write like that - it has to come when I sit down and start typing - it cannot be premeditated - no forethought - I cannot tell a story that way.
I think it will start something like this...(pretend this is Ira Glass's voice of course):
It was 1981 when Corey Ford was driving across the county from New Jersey to Arizona to be in attendance at her dear friend Mikal Gilmore's wedding to Linda Ronstadt's niece, Erin. It was the reception that brought she and Cameron Crowe together...he chatted her up about the movie he had just written but hadn't been released yet (Fast Times). He said to her in describing his big accomplishment "You kind of have to go back to your high school days" and she said (in her head) "Ha, I am only 14 years old and I haven't even been to high school yet," but to him she said "Ha, yeah..uh huh." By the time Corey's family had returned home from the month long road trip Fast Times at Ridgemont High had been released and succeeded. Corey and Cameron became fast friends. And then he forever altered her world, future and identity.
I don't know man.
I don't know how to write this shit out.
It is STILL so fucking close to me.
But I will do it.
Because the story needs to be told.
And I think Ira Glass would love this particular all American tale as much as I would love being in the presence of Ira Glass.
So could you please fucking motivate me people?
I need to submit it.
And just be done with it.
For better or ignored or forgotten or redeemed.

gigondas:
It's totally fun, fer sher. It adds to the story, fer sher. It just needs to be carefully introduced. Know what I mean?
gigondas:
I've never seen it.
