I love coloring. I have just the right artistic attention span for it - no wait - make that just attention span in general. I love the smoothness of the marker, crayon, pencil, whatever it may be...i love the way it has guidelines to glide you through so you don't even have to think about it. I love that it has always been something both of my kids LOVE to do which allows me to mindlessly color at will and at any given time and they end up delighted themselves, at my passive and partial joy in doing so. And we color hair green and skin purple in this house - we don't care about "should" and "could" - we care about "rebel" and "speak out" and "imaginate" (yes i am aware that isn't a word and yes we just think those colors are prettier than the aptly but not so closely researched "skin tone").
I love coloring books and Lite Brite and Legos and Play Doh and truth be told I really just had kids so I could keep playing with this shit unnoticed. It's what to do with them as teenagers I cannot seem to figure out.
