This post goes out to my geezers i_zombie I am looking at you...
I went through a fairly serious Sevendust phase. This came about during the year that I was going through my 2nd divorce (this time with a child involved) and seeking attention, acceptance, comfort, and some kind of redemption. I was forced to move into my mother's house (after many years of not doing such - and this time with a child) into my old room with my old views that I had seen for an awfully long time in a previous life. It was during this time that I immersed myself in the world of my brothers. It might be prudent to point out that my brothers are 10 and 15 years younger than me, so hanging in their crowd as a 34 year old mommy was probably not a pretty place to be. Not to mention, that neither of them were prepared to be in "that" place where their friends are talking about their sister in "that" way. I was old man. OLD I tell you. So, anyway...I would go see Sevendust anywhere. These boys of mine had turned me onto it and I was unstoppable. We drove up and down the East Coast regularly just to see their shows. So, this one time the youngest and I decide to drive to Virginia to see them. 8 hours. From New Jersey. And, while one of us was 19 and finding this sort of thing normal practice, it wasn't me.
SO, we get there and we watch this phenomenal, energy fueled, invigorating show. And we hang out when it is over because that is what "we" young hip cool folks did because you know the musicians always came out and "chilled" with you. Word. Morgan the drummer comes out and chats my brother and I up and signs my tank top (shut up) and tells us to hang out backstage and chill with them. My brother and I gleefully agreed like a couple of banshee groupies (oh wait - that is what we were) and we head backstage, where LaJon (lead singer) greets us and chats us up and signs my tank top (shut up) and tells us to hang out and party with them. And we are living it. We are the shit man. And THEN LaJon turns to me (mind you I was THIRTY FUCKING FOUR and my brother was NINE FUCKING TEEN) and says, "It's so cool that you drove your SON all the way down here to see our concert." SON?!?!?!?! SON!???????????!!!!!
EPIC
FUCKING
FAIL
I never went to see them again.
Fuckers.
(this song rules though)
