In exactly two weeks we are going to see Rollins. I am beyond excited. I have grown up with Rollins. During the prime years of my punk fetish I followed Black Flag's every move.
While I don't always agree with what he has to say, I completely respect his well thought out and researched opinions. It is the off the cuff shit so many artists shoot out that turns me off. Ignorance in general is a huge turn off. But he is well read, well informed, well spoken...he just presents it in a way that I can respect, whether I feel the same way about the topic at hand or not. In growing up with him, I have watched him morph into what all of we aging "punks" have. We discuss and pontificate and wax philosophical. We just aren't screaming anymore.
I have religiously watched his show,
read his books, (this one in particular which resides permanently parked on our coffee table and used in the girl child's punk rock project)

rabidly drank in his spoken word (this being only a partial clip of this rollins vs. iggy pop bit that is fucking hilarious in its entirety
And now...I am going to see him live, in this very intimate setting, with my equally fanatical husband.
Rollins at The Soiled Dove
It feels like a coming of full circle.
So, yeah, I am super mega mondo excited about it. I wonder if he'll notice my "cool girl" hair and want to take us out for coffee.

Enjoy the show! As I'm sure you could guess, I'm a fan as well. I've never watched his show, but . . . yeah, he's pretty much an icon for our generation. Again, have a blast.
