Right now if this aint real to you
Its just one of those things you got to feel to be true
~Tom Petty (duh)
I realize that there are many people in my life who I have let down.
A countless many at that.
To list them would be futile.
To remember them is plentiful.
My 20-year high school reunion is this year.
Holy crap in a basket Batman!
20 fucking years since all that shit.
But so many of them, (now -I could be misguided - it has been known to happen before), have not ventured very far from the parameters of the very high school we graduated from 20 years ago.
Some of them, MANY even, are exactly the same people they were in 1986.
Some, who graduated before that, are even more deeply disturbed than they were in 1982.
Some may never pay attention to the changing of the times, 80s. 90s, 2000s, what have you.
It doesnt affect their checkbook or participation in the yearly 4th of July parade in the engaging and charming town of Haddonfield.
I dunno.
Haddonfield is a fucking crazy town.
I hadnt really planned on talking about it.
But this Tom Petty compilation came on.
And I thought about how many people in that town I knew who had that cd, because it was the safe party cd just like Steve Miller or Steely Dan or any of that stupid non-descript shit we used to play at every party every one of us had.
At our beach house parties.
Because of course we had summer homes too.
When I listen to Tom Petty I think of Laurie Bosch and Dave Bott and Scott Harvey and Dana Demetriades and Dana Rochford and Susan Schwalenberg and Jen Walczak and Heather fucking Baker who will never forgive me and a whole lot others of you who remain unidentified but yet were so close to me.
Or remained close to who you thought I was.
In that town.
Who you are and who you should be become indistinguishable.
Even Johnny Cash says so.
It's a town full of loseresBut baby I'm aiming to win."

i think i'll have a similar feeling 12 years from now, too. it's sad that some individuals just don't change or are just so afraid of it that it retards their ability to grow into an adult.
