"Someday she won't be there when you want her to be there, the light'll be out and you'll be looking up and it will be dark in Heavenly Lane and Mardou'll be gone, and it'll be when you least expect it and want it."
We all have a Mardou Fox in our lives, hell, some of us are the Mardou of our collective past. And we always lose her because she isn't meant to be found, not for any length of time anyway. She is the intermittent segment of our varied memory. She is the pre dawn glimpse into the following day. She is the effervescent beauty enraptured in the fearless dichotomy of responsibility and careless drifting. She is the light and the dark, the past and the present, the pieces we want to forget and the moments we fight fiercely to remember and treasure. She is the Edie Sedgewick, Christiane F., Edna St. Vincent Milay in us all.And the most we can do is embrace her in our retrospective remembrance. But we cannot keep her.
And we cannot forget her.
