A quick catch up,
Gosh it seems like just yesterday I was falling behind on editing my drive across country video, and now it's 3 months later and I have yet to finish it. I've pretty much been working straight since May, mostly on the Salmon Restoration project and a little in the boat yard in P.A. Since all my work is contract work, I have not been paid yet for a stitch of the salmon work, and will likely not see a check for another two weeks. Weak! I just tried to buy a plane ticket on my Master Card, and it's maxxed out, fuck, I've never done that one before. Oh well.
Last night I drove back to work on the East Side of the Cascades from Port Angeles. This involves a ferry ride from the Olympic Peninsula to the "main land", not a fun thing on a Sunday night. As is always the case, the weekend was too short, especially with a 6 hour commute on either end, and too much to do to even think that the list might be accomplished. Then, I got blown off by a friend who I was excited to have a drink with, guess she wasn't as excited, or really does want to dance in the thriller video remake. I said go chew gum in Singapore.
It was cool though, driving east into the foothills of the Cascades, lightning was raining down on the hillsides and the full moon was rising up above the whole scene. It never quite rained, but there was moisture in the air, but apparently not enough, for as I approached Steven's Pass I could see two small fires working their way up the backside of the mountain. I pulled over there to try and get some photos, and have a beer. It was midnight, and the frozen sausage had kept the beer quite cold. I never got a shot of the lightening, even with the shutter open forever, but it was a gorgeous night with smoke in the air, and a yellowy orange moon from the haze.
I drove down into the valley and onto the dry slope of Washington. About 25 miles east of the pass we have a spot where we've been camping on the side of the Chiwaukum creek, a tributary to the Wenatchee that flows out of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. It's a beautiful spot and totally free. I pulled in, and someone else was camped there, but there's plenty of room for all of us.
I unpacked a bit, drank a beer and crawled into the back of my truck and watched and listened to the weather show continuing to the North. I thought for sure I would wake to some really good stuff, or engulfed in flames, but the night passed without incident and here I am today.
I will be snorkeling all week, and shooting some video. We'll be in some really great sites in the wilderness counting fish. Places where the salmon have passed 7 dams, and gone about 600 miles to spawn, wild fish not hatchery fish, the kind that are killed by the sea lice that invades as they swim by the factory Atlantic Salmon Farms where you buy your salmon. Anyway, it's amazing, and I can't wait to get some of the footage up.
On that vain, I sent a bunch of stuff to my buddy who will be building my new website. I have some ideas that are going to be great, and even if you don't know it now, this time 6 weeks from now you will be visiting the site on the regular, not really sure what you did with out it before. No, really, I'm serious.
