I'm sitting in my cabin in Port Angeles, I'm sick. I started feeling it last Wednesday, five days ago. Had to work on Thursday, after having an awful night, and morning, but managed to hike 8 miles, much of it off trail, and get the job done on 2 bananas. We saw 4 Rattlers on the trail on the way back, 2 of which Eric, the first guy stepped right over. This trail is closed, and is so thick that about 10 percent of the time you can't see your feet. It was a scary walk out. I was pissed at our boss, because he didn't tell us that there was no trail, and I was feeling super bad, and fatigued, and generally just pissed.
Anyway, I drove home that night, racing to catch the last ferry at 1145, from Edmonds to the Peninsula. I made it home at about 0145, and hit the sack, only to be woken by my bowls. A gallon of water weighs 8 pounds, and since I hadn't eaten really, all that was expelled was water, and I'm sure more than a gallon. I went through a roll and a half of toilet paper by 0930. Sorry to talk about shit, though it barely seems like shit.
It's good to see my "land mate" Scott and his family, Natalie and Flora. They were having friends over and planned a party, and there were waves, which I couldn't surf, being too messed up. I was super bummed. I spent most of Friday in bed.
I woke on Saturday, feeling a little better, but still unable to eat. I worked on finishing my deck, because I figured it would be a good hang out spot for the party. Being at about 40% I didn't quite finish, but it looks great, and I'm super psyched. People started showing up around 1700, and Scott and friends went out and pulled the crab pots and brought back 10 huge Dungeness Crabs to cook. Everyone was into the beer, and again I was bummed, to only be able to enjoy the company, and not the food and victuals. A friend of ours had caught a shitload of Halibut in Alaska recently, so we cooked that on the grill, and it was just too much. I poured myself a small glass of white wine, and had some crab and a taco. I was immediately hit with a fever, and low energy and went and lay down, while the party really began hopping. I got up at around 2230, and went outside, and everyone was around the fire. It was really nice, and soon, everyone was in my cabin, my first real guests!! It was sweet; I just wish I could've done right by the occasion.
My body wasn't too stoked on the food, and since, it is now Monday, I have been expelling said solids with ferocity, and my waist is 2 inches smaller. I can't drink water right now, and don't know what to do. I have to go back to work. I think that it's a virus, but it could be giardia, though I had that in 1994, and this feels different. There's a chance though, that I drank some river water that a coworker had put in a gallon jug without labeling. I made an appointment tomorrow in a health clinic over there, because the clinics here are retarded and expensive. Over there they have places for the Mexican Apple pickers, so I can get in there, and get treated like a human being.
Anyway, I have to go pack, and get on the road. I have all the bathrooms mapped out, going over the north cascades highway. Hope I get better soon, I need to work.
