My son is officially a Duranie. It's better than being N'Sync right? Anywho, it all began with "(Reach Up For the) Sunrise." Song is so catchy, him and his sis picked up the chorus really quickly. Scary also, is the fact that I've been playing "Live From London" DVD frequently and sonny-boy is doing Simon's moves. Well, that's my fault because I've been doing 'em too. You know the bit towards the end of "Sunrise" when Simon goes "feel the new day"--right hand extended forward--"enter your"--left hand extended--"life!"--both arms outstretched. C'mon, you know what I'm talking about.
I've burned him a copy of "Astronaut" and "Greatest." He doesn't know song titles quite yet, just track numbers. He sings along, "Oh my God, what's this?" on track 5. He can do the entire first chorus of "What Happens Tomorrow." What's odd is that on the live DVD, he noticed the "Silent Icy River" part was missing from his CD. How cool is that?
Tonight, I was rearranging my bedroom. If you've seen it, it's basically a shrine for James Dean memorabilia and a lot of action figures I keep atop my entertanment center. I had two unopened packs of Duran Duran cards from '84 and decided to let him open a pack. No, he didn't eat the chewing gum . . .
What's weird is he thinks the guy wearing the sunglasses is cool . . . heheheh. I told him lead singers always get the ladies.
Another song he bops around the house to is "Pretty Vegas" by INXS. Both kiddies are getting wise to my music. Sonny-boy even goes through my CD collection to sample my stuff. He wanted me to burn him some KISS. Not quite yet sonny-boy!!!
Me . . . I'm going through a massive Johnny Cash phase right now. Just got his 4-disc set "The Legend" today as well as "The Man Comes Around," his last album featuring the cover of "Hurt." Another gem on that one is "Bridge Over Troubled Water" with Fiona Apple singing backup. Then, after getting my haircut today, I popped into a Beall's factory store and find a $4.99 book at 95% off--a photo memoir of Johnny Cash!!! Plus it's got a CD single of "Ring of Fire" in it. How fuckin' rad?
There's a quote on the back cover of the book from Marty Stuart:
"There's two kinds of people. There's those who like Johnny Cash and those that will."
I've got about 50 more pages to go in his autobiography. What a great read. Now if only I can get sonny-boy to sing "Folsom Prison Blues."
Sheesh. I absolutely am addicted to music. And I want to pass that on . . .
