Thursday. Tampa. Depeche Mode. In a word, BRILLIANT!
Highlights of the evening included:
1) sitting enjoying my Chicken Fries at the BK Lounge listening to some old folks talking about the perils of bringing your daughters into public restrooms. "It's ok if the mother brings the boy into the ladies' room, but for the father to bring the girl into the men's room with all the urinals?"
2) MacDinty's? Is that what it was called? I can't remember.
3) going to Will Call to find out we had prime tickets to Bruce Springsteen the next night, and NOT Depeche tix . . . that got all sorted.
4) overpriced merch--which I sadly did not partake in, although I could probably find the yellow "Master and Servant" tee on eBay.
5) meeting two blokes who've got impeccable musical tastes--singing along loudly to "I Don't Like Mondays" live from Live Aid and "Happy Birthday" by the beautiful Clare Grogan & Altered Images!
6) the concert itself (duh!). And DM doing "Somebody" and "Just Can't Get Enough" in the first encore!
7) Dave Gahan stopping "Everything Counts" and starting it over because the first go-round was "shit."
8) the hole in the wall pub after the show, hearing some real fuckin' music for a change.
9) remembering that Martin & Gary Kemp starred as the notorious Reggie & Ronnie Kray in the flick "The Krays."
10) reaffirming my belief that the Bravery suck . . .
That's my Depeche Mode story . . . I wrote down most of the set list. If I can decipher most of it, it went like this:
A Pain That I'm Used To
John the Revelator
A Question of Time
Policy of Truth
Precious
Walking In My Shoes
Suffer Well
Damaged People
Home
________?
Sinner In Me
I Feel You
Behind the Wheel
World In My Eyes
Personal Jesus
________?
Somebody
Just Can't Get Enough
Everything Counts
_______?
Soul Sister (not sure of title)
Anyone who was there can help me with the blanks? Let me know. Great fuckin' show!!!
