I went with some coworkers to Seoul on saturday. One of them wants to get some zebra finches so we spent most of the trip looking for and then walking around the pet district. Koreans don't have a problem with selling pets the day after they're born, it seems, and so I saw tiny dwarf hamsters, rabbits, kittens, ferrets, hedgehogs, etc. that would never be ready for sale in the US. Koreans also have chipmunks as pets, which would be fun to own I think. They dart around extremely fast though, so I don't think you'd be able to catch it if it got loose. I also saw a skunk for sale and a myna bird that spoke Korean. While I was in the medical district I almost bought a rubber hand with acupuncture points painted on it, but I thought $8.00 was too much. One thing I thought was interesting was the billboards and advertisements often had caucasians modeling korean brand clothing and shoes. I hadn't really realized that the "western is better" attitude was still prevalent. There were also bands of riot police roaming the streets because apparently Dubya was in Busan that day and there were big demonstrations going on there and they were afraid of them happening in Seoul too. I guess they don't like EVERYTHING western..
