So much to say, so little articulation.
Here's the synopsis:
1) Funeral went fine. It was a funeral. It's weird not to see the casket buried. It's also weird to watch a big yellow digger scoop out a hole in the earth just so you feel more closure.
2) That wasn't Chocolate at the SC Animal joint. We named the imposter Fakestevia Chocolate and met too many wonderful adoptable cats that day.
3) I am paying too much attention to roadkill. I can't shake the image of that woman's dog spinning in the street after being struck dead by someone who couldn't be bothered to stop and say, "I'm sorry I killed your dog right in front of you." Thick warm pools of blood in the road. Giant clots of blood sliding out of the dog's throat and dropping a trail on the sidewalk as his owner carried him home while I held her other dog. D left a bouquet of flowers on her doorstep the next day. I hope she found them.
4) Labor Day was a welcome break. The best song in the world that weekend was "Do you Realize?" by the Flaming Lips. I changed my mind that day about life.
5) I have a webcam.
6) I have deadlines.
7) Every call I get from family members has me anxious that someone else has died. People who I fear to die the most right now: My grandmother and Robert.
8) I am having death dreams. Brains on the street, high school mass suicide optioned as neatly as prom picture packages.
9) I am not getting enough sleep.
10) I need to write all this shit down, but I haven't the time, so I know I'm not doing any of this justice. But I thought you'd like to know.
How are you? I would really like to know.

Well it's probably not the most exciting news in your world, but I am taking a photograph or three again nowadays.
