I ache and hurt so much right now. I just pulled what felt like the longest double shift ever. I was up at 5am, got to work at 7am to start my normal shift (7-3:30pm). My boss told me he needed me to either work the night grill today or tomorrow on my day off to cover for our grill guy whos wife was very very ill. I choose today because I promised my grandm
other I would clean out her garage tomorrow. So from 7am to noon I made the soups (6 gallons of bacon cheddar and 12 gallons of minnestrone) 120 portions worth of herb crusted pork loin with an herb feta cream sauce, 130 portions of spiced split chicken with a homemade BBQ sauce, plus set up for todays "special salad". Then I had to do the prep work for what I needed for the grill later that night.
By noon my ass was out on the grill. Busy Busy Busy. I hadn't had b-fast or lunch or any type of food or break until 4pm. Then at 8pm it was finally closing time and fun fun fun, I got to clean the grill and the fryer.
While on my hour break I got to go move my car from a nice close spot (which I thought was all I needed for today) to a far away spot that wouldn't get ticketed. Though I did to two good deeds today.
1) As I was walking back to the hospital I saw a guy park in my old spot and I said to him as he was getting out, "Just so you know you only have five minutes left right there." He stopped, looked up at the sign and said, "Thanks I owe you big!" Got in his car and basically moved it to where my car was.
2) Again walking back to the hospital I encounter an elderly lady trying to step over a high curb at the banks parking lot. I run over to help her so she wont fall. This took a while...she was pretty slow. Then she proceeds to wrap her arm around my arm and gave me her purse and I (without thinking twice) escorted her down a block and a half to the OTHER hospital across from mine. That took a lot of my break time away but hey.... she was 90 man, and just got over a broken hip. YOU tell her to walk herself.
When I finally got back to my cafe I had time for a bag of chips and half a chapter of my book.
All in all it was a busy day. Tomorrow is going to be just as busy trying to clean out that garage. But it will get my mind of my lack of a... we won't get into that.
I think I need a hot bath and some real food now. Take care my little monsters.
