Got my tonsils removed Last Friday on May 1st. It has taken this long just to start eating solid foods again. My doctor also told me that because my tonsils were so big (think walnuts) that I have A LOT of more room in the back of my throat and therefor have to learn to swallow all over again.
Pair that with the healing process and it's taking a long painful time to get through this. He gave me tylenol with codeine at first for the pain, but after my follow up visit (when I should have gone off the meds) he switched me to morphine. woo
Had to take another week off of work too. I feel bad for doing this, but I'm scared to tear my throat lifting heavy things, plus I can't talk still and my customers would be pissed trying to communicate with me. The doctors would understand, the bitchy nurses that I have to deal with though would just use it as an excuse to complain. Trust me.... it's all they do.
oh..... and that whole "you get to eat a ton of ice cream!" myth? fuck that, not true at all. You can't even swallow the first three days after surgery, after that it's little bites and forcing to swallow that after four bites your tired and done eating and want to sleep.
But after all this whining? IT IS SO WORTH IT!!!!! I'm really happy I got it done finally. No more bad taste in the back of my mouth, no more tonsiliths/throat stones (look it up, they are disgusting!!!) and NO MORE CONSTANT SORE THROATS!
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!

I had this done when I was little. I'm glad I don't have to deal with it now. Feel better.
