I kicked some major ass this weekend. Being humble is a big thing for me (when people thank me for something I always say "not a problem" or "my pleasure" I rarely say you're welcome and If I do it's with a huge smile on my face), so when I finished this week at work sans boss and sous chef I just had to give myself a little pat on the back!
I spent one hundred and fifty bucks on software (microsoft office for my mac and a usb cable for my printer) so that I may write menus and print out recipes at home instead of fighting for use of one of the craptapular computers at work.
So next weeks menu and recipes have been written, produce ordering, meat and seafood ordering have been called in, and all prep work delegated and finished. I did my usual shifts on top of this, but the real piece de resistance was all the catering orders that were thrown my way. Last minuted orders for 105 sandwiches then 40 sandwiches and fruit platters, salads, V.I.P luncheons and the like. It feels like they threw everything they had at me...... but I did it! I flowed through this week like a river. It feels good, I can't wait for my boss to come back so I can gloat (we have that kind of relationship, plus he is my friend, PLUS this is his last week).
I doubt all this extra work I did will get noticed in my directors eyes, it won't amount to a hill of beans when considering me for a promotion. You know what? At this point I don't care anymore, I am just damn proud of myself for doing my bosses AND my sous chefs job this whole week (and my sous chefs job for the last month while he has been on vacation).
