I've seen a lot of talk about "the soundtrack of your life" and general music nostalgia the last few days. I could never try to put together a soundtrack of my life, I'm too much of a music junkie with tastes across way too many genres, there'd be too many great artists and songs I'd feel bad about leaving out. Not to mention I'd want to list too many soundtracks and nerd rap songs. ;)
However, I think everyone has that one song that resonates for them more than anything else; that is so rife with nostalgia that from the moment it starts to play, you're transported somewhere else entirely. For me, that's "Suicide Machine" by Hum from their 1995 album, You'd Prefer An Astronaut. Every time I hear it, I'm dragged back through time; especially the last two minutes.
"So bring no guilt with you up above the flatline, let's just hit the sky exploding into one."
