All's well. Whew. I auditioned high enough to take the bass clarinet spot I was gunning for, and the bass clarinet solo that goes with it.
I'd already been working on the solo, so it would have been a huge waste if I hadn't officially gotten the solo, which I now have.
But that's the classical music world for you. You work very hard on things that you may never get a chance to perform, just so when that one moment comes around that you MAY get to play it, you'll be ready. A nasty business, really.
You WILL have to suck dick if you're a woman. A lesser player will always beat you if she's polished the boss' knob. YOu must clean him up as well. Thank goodness I'm a dude. Blowing someone has never been my cup of tea.
(The above paragraph is actually something that was going on fifty years ago, really. Conductors can't get away with that shit anymore. There still is favoritism showed to males in the auditions though.)
And I'm not saying I like it that way. Really, I don't. I'd hate to beat someone that I wasn't better than. Being a guy gives me an advantage, but not a fair one. I just try not to think about it.

yup.. Carmen comes out for special occasions. my mom stuffed him into a garbage bag once because she walked into the room and spilled her tea cause he was just sitting there all top hatty in a chair and freaked her right out. but i felt bad about him being in a bag... anything that has a face shouldn't be stored in a bag... except clocks and watches.
