Hi.
Do any of you lift weights or work out or anything like that? You know how if you take a lot of time off from working out, when you get back to it, it's all of a sudden a lot harder? You actually get weaker, you know? Well, that's the way clarinet works. I took over two months off of the clarinet, and now I'm practicing again. It's so different! I lost a lot of my skill. I went and took an hour long lesson with my clarinet professor (for $45 might I add), and he said that I would regain my former level in about two weeks, but that's a long time to wait. I hate practicing as it is, and it makes it suck even more when instead of getting better, I'm just making up lost ground. It fucking blows, actually.
I have some exciting news though. As you might have realized, there aren't many 6'4 clarinet players. I mean, most clarinet players are skinny little girls. I'm definitely not the norm. What my size allows me to do is play the much larger bass clarinet better than anyone else my age. It's just a natural advantage I have over my peers, being much bigger than them. That said, I spoke with my band director today and he's planning on playing a piece with the wind symphony that I'm in that features a huge bass clarinet solo! Nothing is final yet, but it looks like I may be able to play it! This will be really good for my reputation around the university if I get the solo. I'll have a recording of it after the concert that I can submit to other universities when it's time to get my masters degree. I need you all to be preying for me next Monday when I learn weather I get the solo or not. I'll let you know if I get it of corse.
Enough about music.
Well, there's not too much else to report on here. My life is at a bit of a standstill these days. I go to work, I go to school, I practice clarinet, I eat, I sleep. That's about it, people. I've never really been at the center of drama and conflicts between people and stuff. Always very easy-going and stuff. It gets boring though. I need a change. I need to get out and meet some new people. And as I've said before, I need a fucking girlfriend. Seriously. SERIOUSLY.
Now, don't get the wrong idea. I'm not desperate here. Just a bit lonly I guess. My roommate is alyways hanging out with his girlfriend, and often I tag along when them. We go out to dinner, the three of us, a lot. I made sure my roomie was ok with me hanging out them, and he's totally cool with it. I still feel like a 'third wheel' though, you know? But I don't have a lot of other friends that live in town and I do like hanging out with my roomie and his girl. Seeing them together makes me want to have the same thing though. Any of this making sense, or am I a nut-case? Now and then I'm just not sure...
Ok, enough for tonight. Creig Kilborn (sp?) has just started, and for some reason I think he's really funny. I'm gonna go watch his show. I hope all is well with you all, and I'll talk to you later.
