okay, long time no write...life has been hectic for better and worse.
i have a new job that i'm in love with and also deathly afraid of. i've gone from doing almost nothing at NYU to a hell of a lot of responsibility for a non-profit. but it's doing what i've dreamt of for quite awhile. helping students travel abroad for study and community service type activities.
the most fun stuff that has happened lately though...went to bangkok for 10 days to meet an internet friend. it was amazing. first we connected incredibly from the moment we met at the airport. we spent three days getting to know each other really well and then hit the city. i'd never been to asia at all, it was pretty incredible. also spent 8 days in southern italy. amazingly beautiful. now i will be traveling for my new job. i'm going to guadalajara at the end of the month and then to jamaica soon after. both places i've never been so i'm just a little excited
life has turned a little upside down, my new roommate in my new favorite neighborhood in the city decided that she was moving back to the great NW at the end of this month, so she goes to Seattle and I must frantically look for a new cheap dog-loving place to live! aaaaargh.
Well, crazy stuff w/my niece. her mother has been pretty much homeless for months so both my nephew and niece have been staying elsewhere (separately). well, as school time was approaching my niece was told she had to leavce where she was staying and she had nowhere else she was able/willing to live. so, my ex-wife said she could come live with her. life-changing words for my niece. so, we started arranging that and were trying to find out where to send her to school (not too excited about her attending a public high school in the bronx) when the ex decided to get fin-aid info for next year from the schools she had applied to earlier (that she wasn't attending becuz we couldn't get financial info from her mom for aid). well, one of the schools said they would still like her to attend and would give half the tuition in scholarships. that still leaves us with $14,000 to pay, but to get her away from the hell she was living in and into a prestigious and artsy high school we'll somehow find a way. (anybody have a money tree i can visit?) so, she's now here for a few weeks until we take her to school in vermont where hopefully she's starting her journey to a new life for herself (yes, i know i sound cheezy but that's how it makes me feel).
and i'm trying to make new friends (of all sorts). too many people have been leaving NYC or disappearing into their own insular relationship-centered lives.
and stuff...
