Does one need to drink to have a good time? Of course not.
I enjoy beer and a the odd vodka (Stoli) and Coke but I am finally getting to the point where I cannot drink every damn weekend. When I was in my 20's, I wanted to get fucked up just about every night but now, it is becoming the same old tired routine.
Don't get me wrong. I am not going to quit drinking entirely. To be honest, I have not been drinking much anyway because of financial constraints. Still, do I really want to keep on doing this when I am 40???
Who wants to hang out with some old fat drunkard anyway? No way! I think you can still go out without becoming a raging alcoholic. It does not mean I want to become a party pooper or anything like that!

We call fat old drunks here, locals. Anyway they are fun and stuff but mostly people hang out with them to give themselves a pat on the back for being a humanitarian and hanging out with the "normal" folk. Personally I like the old drunks better than the young (ignorant) ones.
