So I am back in the job market. Cutbacks suck. At least I have more time to play with my dogs.
This whole election thing is making me nervous. I have serious reservations about McCain. But Clinton and Obama are both out of the question. In the end, I am growing more frustrated with the two-party system than I am with the candidates themselves. They just say and do whatever is needed to get elected. What we need is a third party in this country that represents the center. The Democrats have been hijacked by the neo-socialist Moveon.org crowd and thus play to the extreme left. The Republicans have been hijacked by the evangelical Christians and thus play to the extreme right.
What about those of us in the middle?
I am for:
1. Low taxes
2. Deregulation
3. Strong military
4. Winning the was in Afghanistan and Iraq
5. etc.....
I am also:
1. Pro-Choice
2. Pro-Gay Marriage
3. Letting people have autonomy in their lives to do what is best for them and their families
However, the end result of number 3 is that people have to be ready and willing to accept and deal with the consequences of their decisions. The government shouldn't be bailing people out of the mortgage crisis. 94% of the people in the US have houses they can afford and are making their payments on time. The rest made the decision to buy more house than they could afford.
Yet our politicians, whether Democrat or Republican, hold to one truth:
"It is the job of government to make sure that individuals never have to meet the consequences of their decisions."
That sucks. And it doesn't work. And it fucks over the rest of us that live responsibly.
