Hope your head is feeling a lot better! That's a lot of books to come at you at once. I've never played Assassin's Creed before, but I've always wanted to try it. I'm pretty sure I could find the first one for super cheap right now. Don't feel awkward about requesting the day off to play that game. I almost considered taking a few days off to watch G4's coverage of E3 this year, but decided there was nothing wrong with DVRing it and watching it after work.

Braid and SotC are great examples of beautiful art and art direction in games. He's obviously also never seen Prince of Persia, Uncharted nor any of the other titles since the first Mario World like Grim Fandango and Ico that have been constantly expanding the horizons of storytelling and human experience.
In short, he is entirely unqualified to judge.
As an Audio Director/Composer who works both in films and games, I can happily and unequivocally assure you, that the amount of painstaking thought and artistry put into the conception and realization of most AAA games far exceeds that of many films.
But then most new art forms throughout history have had to endure ignorance from people who fear change.
