So the other night I found out I'm a victim of fraud. My debit info was stolen and very little money was taken (I'll gte ot that) and all sorts of accounts were openned with my name and birthday and address. It sucks but I'm on top of it and it's not a big deal. Onto the little amount, thn the ridiculous cops.
The person made a $172 purchase on coach.com and the order was shipped to FL. As soon as this happened the bank froze my account assuming that wasn't me. Now.... $172 at coach.com?!?!? The person MUST have SCOURED the site for BY FAR the cheapest item they had! Like one of those little Coach key chains. I mean seriously, it's Coach, you can drop like a G on a bag...so if it's someone else's money, why not? $172?!?!? What a dumb frauder.
So on the phone my bank tells me I can go to ANY police station (I asked) to file a police report (to unfreeze my account and get my money back) (though I'm closing my account and openning a new one to be safe) I go to the police station and the clerical woman is BAFFLED by my problem....so she gets an officer.
This officer is like 60 years old and like 6foot 23 inches. He's BIG. Very dry and no sense of humor. I explain it to him and he' lazy. Doesn't want to file a report. So he says to me "You have to file a report where it took place" so I said, "Well, it took place on the internet." he then informed me that since it was sent to FL, I have to file the report in FL. (For those that don't want to skip to my profile to check, I'm in MA) I pause for a while, and in the most dry (kinda confused) not sarcastic, not mad, not anything just..... type of response say "No." he reminds me that a report has to be submitted in the city it happens in. I ask "So you mean I have to take a trip to FL and back hat will cost me more than $172 just to say that someone stole $172 from me?" and he said "well you don't have to..." I then conversed the rest out. There has to be another way. I do it here, you send it to florida, I send it to florida, there has to be some system in place I doubt this is the first time something has happened in multiple states like this before they can't actually expect....nothing. I get nothing from him. I then tell him I don't actually care about solving crimes or finding the person I really just want a police report so I can get my money from the bank. So I'll take a dead end report or even a fake.
Nothing.
All that being said, for those of you that have made it this far.....
I'm still happy and maintaining my sunny disposition. After doing all that last night today at work everyone that matters and has any power at all was telling me about how today was like my greatest work day ever and was exempliary and all sorts of other stuff yay.
