I just had to say, that the other night I saw Joanna Newsome at the Vogue in Vancouver, and it nearly blew my mind. I should mention, that previous to seeing her I had never heard her music, but holy fucking shit was it a great show! What I found the most impressive is just the sheer talent of this girl, her songs are very well composed and beautifully arranged, as I sat there I thought to myself: this is real music and certainly not kitch or irony. It made me realize that so many fake ass indie bands try desperately to pass off some semblance of being all folk or country but are just a bunch of people in costumes. Joanna Newsome makes refreshingly original music, thoughtful music, admittedly not really my kind of music but real music without a touch irony, no gimmicks. Just real music, perfect for some medieval harvest festival, or something like that.
