It has been a long time since I have lived like the wind...I have to say...it feels phenomenal.
Saturday, my niece called me at work to ask if I wanted to go over to a festival with her. She's the most domestic 18 year old that I have ever met...and she's really in her element this time of year. It's "festival season" here in Northern Indiana...you can't throw a rock without hitting a fair or festival going on...it's actually not nearly as lame as my excitement about it seems to be.
We baked in the heat, sifting through trinkets and treasures...basically just an excuse for some much needed girl-bonding and boy-talk. She's awfully insightful for someone her age, she reminds me so much of my brother.
I got home in enough time to grab a shower and get ready for the evenings festivities. The same festival was featuring a "Fireworks Extravaganza" Saturday evening, and we had reservations at the restaurant overlooking the lake. It was incredible...soft breeze off the water...comfy, relaxed setting, dinner followed by a spectacular light display and a couple bottles of wine...it successfully eliminated any stress carried over from the week...a fucked up week by all accounts.
Well...in the course of a conversation...the subject of movies came up...and then the subject of Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. One thing led to another, and we were on our way to Kokomo at midnight, because that was the closest White Castle I could think of...(about an hour and 15 minutes away). A quick call to my cousin and his girlfriend, and they met us there for a late night snack. We ended up back at Sam's watching the movie that inspired our impromptu road trip. I laughed so hard, I hurt...it's a comedy of acquired taste, that is for sure.
Sunday was suppose to bring a quick exit out of town and home in time to log in some work hours...but morning turned to afternoon, and we ended up at my uncles new house to watch the race. I just fell in love with the house, and my cousin Bri and I went searching online to help him furnish the massive space that he's now occupying.
After the race, we made a quick stop at my grams to say hey, and Bri went with us. She is a cuddly creature...it began when she was little and still at 16, she's always very affectionate. Well, sitting there talking...my Gram said something to her about how after my surgery she's going to have to take it easy on me...and Bri leans over and whispers in my ear..."I *heart* you" Needless to say, it made me cry. She's an amazing kid.
Dragging ass back home Sunday evening...I was pretty out of it, and it was only like 7...my GOD am I OLD! It was just the weekend I needed...all the right spices, seasoned to perfection, and a reminder of just why I love my family and friends so much. The perspective...the love...the comfort....it's in abundance around these people.
This week is about living. My GOD...it's about living. I'm finally able to eat again...and my energy is multiplying with every passing hour. The week is filling up with little effort, and next weekend, is the birthday party that I've been taunted with for the last 2 weeks. Specific instructions...and a detailed schedule of timing have sparked many unanswered questions. One thing I don't question...how my family rocks the most!
QUESTION: How was YOUR weekend?
