This morning, driving into work at 4:45, there was a bunny hopping around in the road, trying desperately to get out of my way. No worries, little bunny, you are my first sign of summer, I won't hurt you. He found his way onto some grass and off he went.
I miss summer. Heat, humidity, what's not to like, huh? I miss the warm air when I walk outside from the arctic freezer that they keep my office temperature set at. I miss the lazy sunsets out on the water, with the hot breeze and a cold beer. I miss the wind on my face and my thighs wrapped around a growling hog gliding down the highway. I miss running for so long my legs tingle and my body is covered in a glow of exhaustion. I miss the sun at 5:45 a.m. *sigh*
Indiana summers are about swimming through the humidity that consumes us, sweating with no effort, a sun so strong it burns you within minutes, but to me it's a reminder of a simpler life. A life free of expectations and disrespect. The smell of fresh cut grass and laying in the yard, making animals out of the shapes of the clouds.
I'm not sure if it's the examination of the roles I have placed people in my life in or the desire for the rest of my life to hurry up and start, but I can't wait for summer.
Summer, a simpler life.
