So this morning I'm going to view two houses. The beginning of my search. Or rather the first time I've done anything beyond viewing web pages. The first one I'm going to see is a two-family (which I'm not thrilled about but it suits my current needs perfectly). The smaller apartment is on the main floor, and the 2nd and 3rd floors are all one larger unit. The reason that is ideal because my intention is to offer my mother a place to live for less money than she'd have to pay anywhere else. And it's got to be easy-access due to her MS impaired mobility. Anyhow I drove by this place last week and it certainly looks like it'll need a bit of work. Hard to say how much without having been inside, but I'm inclined to take a wild guess at $25-30k worth. Fortunately it's priced so that I could afford to do that.
The second one I'm visiting is also a two-family and significantly more money. But is move-in-ready.
EDIT: First one is off the list. It'll just require too much work and I'm not the kind of guy who can take on a major fixer-upper. The second one I'm visiting on Monday instead. It's currently occupied to the residents need the advance notice. I drove by it today, however, and it looked promising. We'll see.

Good luck on the search.
