I number of things put me in a good mood tonight. Made my delivery this morning and got a pretty darn good re-load. A trip from where I was in north-eastern Ohio to Fremont, Nebraska (which is close to Omaha). This is good because (a) it's the perfect amount of miles to spread over the two days allotted, and (b) it is so rare that I get west of Illinois lately that I'm excited just to not be going back and forth to the east coast.
Mid west miles are easy. Not just because the landscape is flat, but there's just so much less bullshit to deal with on the roads. The only possible monkey wrench in the system would be getting by Chicago. I was prepared for the worst, and the traffic reports weren't optimistic. But through some incredible stroke of luck, I had no problems whatsoever. That makes the third time in a row I have made it past Chicago without encountering significant traffic. Oh there was plenty of traffic someplace around the city, but not exactly where I was. I must be on a lucky streak. Perhaps it'd be a good time to buy PowerBall.
So now I'm at the Flying J in LaSalle, Illinois. Tomorrow I have less than half the trip left for Friday delivery, and EASY miles rolling across Iowa. Life is good.
I saw a lady old enough to be my grandmother backing up her big rig in the truck stop parking lot today. It made me smile. Then she was in the restaurant a bit later eating chili. I smiled again.
Watching season one of "Deadwood" and loving it. Why does "real life" have to be so ordinary compared to life portrayed in our various forms of entertainment?
Oh, and here's a little something to make you laugh:
