My attorney's office contacted me today and said that it wouldn't be necessary for me to appear in court tomorrow. They'll be appearing on my behalf to submit a "not guilty" plea and then to reschedule whatever has to come next. I don't really understand why, because I made the arrangements to be available to be there at the East Rutherford court house. Maybe this is a normal strategy that lawyers employ. Maybe the simple act of asking for a rescheduling by a lawyer is enough for New Jersey to simply say "this isn't even worth our time". Naturally that'd be the best possible outcome but I'm not holding my breath waiting for that result.
But honestly, being REQUIRED to make a court appearance for a ticket like this... ice/snow on a motor vehicle... that has got to be the most retarded thing I have ever heard of. I have always been under the impression that you only HAD to attend court for serious violations. So they are suggesting that a piece of ice that fell off the TOP of my trailer and cracked some lady's windshield (which my company paid to replace) is that serious of a violation? It's nothing but bullshit if you ask me. As I stated in the past, my company does not hold me responsible. They do not expect and would not allow me to attempt to clear ice or snow off the top of my trailer. They'll pay whatever fine is eventually levied on me.
But alas, I am given a temporary stay of execution. I gotta check back in a couple of weeks and see what's next.
