Busy couple of days. On Tuesday I worked for a good 14 hours... driving most of them despite the laws that say you can't do that. Honestly, it is pretty rare that I go over the daily TOTAL hour limit set by the DOT but every once in a while there's just so many ways you can accomplish a particular task. One of the two real problems here lies in the (relatively new) lack of flexibility truckers are given. The limits are perfectly reasonable... the fact that you cannot break it up to be SAFER and more realistically accomodate shippers and receivers schedules is the issue.
Anyhow, right now it is almost noon. I'm sitting at a customer location waiting for my turn to be loaded. It will most likely be a couple of hours before I get out of here and THEN I have 500 miles to go. I've been up since 5:45. You see how this goes. The people loading and unloading the trucks are problem number two in this industry, not the drivers. If every place I went to actually took me at my appointment time and got the truck loaded or unloaded in 30 minutes or less (perfectly reasonable but surprisingly rare) the world would be a much more efficient place.
I'm in dire need of a shower but that'll have to wait until later I think. Most likely early evening some time. IThen 'll be working until about midnight or so, unfortunately.
