Thursday EDIT: Made my Detroit-area delivery this morning. Sitting in the Flying J in Toledo now just killing some time. My pickup is in Butler, Indiana late this afternoon. A two-stop trip to Massachusetts and Maine (but first home to Providence). I'll most likely only do a couple hundred miles today and spend most of Friday actually getting home. Hang around Saturday... get a few other things I need for the truck. Sunday night I'll drive to the first drop and park it there. I've been to the location before but it was over a year ago. Hard to remember if I can park there overnight or not. Guess I'll find out.
Listened to Stern again this morning. I guess I've become a fan now that he's uncensored.
Wednesday: Michigan is another one of those fucked up states where the speed limit is different for cars and trucks. This is done under the ruse of it being a safety related law, but that is complete bullshit. It is a revenue generation tool used by some states, pure and simple.
In fact, any studies that I have seen on this issue usually quite clearly indicate no safety improvement. Quite the contrary, in fact... because forcing vehicles to move at different speeds greatly increases the car and truck interactions. Here in Michigan, for example, you have a 15mph difference in the limit for cars and trucks. That is a lot... and is pretty dangerous. It makes it that much more difficult for big trucks to move over to allow for merging traffic and such. So all in all, this actually makes the roads more dangerous for both truck drivers and you normal commuters. All in the name of hopefully snagging some extra bucks via tickets from those of us truckers too impatient to drive 55.
Blame your state legislators when you get stuck behind a slow moving truck. Believe me, it is their fault not ours.
Howard Stern. I've never been a huge fan in the past but I've found occasional amusement listening to his show now and then. And his movie was reasonably enjoyable as well. In fact, the funniest aspect of it was simply how he fought so hard against censorship. Pushing the limits. But clearly he has ALWAYS been butting heads with both the FCC and corporate politics.
But not anymore.
In January he made a huge change and is no longer broadcast on terrestrial radio. He is now the exclusive domain of SIRUIS satellite radio. He brought with him a loyal following and increased subscriptions by something like 3.5 million people. Anyhow... despite this not being anything new since it really occured months ago now, it's only been during the last week or so that I personally started listening to his show. It is GREAT. I must say... and better by far than anything I remember having listened to when he was on FM the last 20 or whatever years. He does and says anything he wants now. No rules against profanity or sexuality or pretty much anything at all on pay radio. The guests he's had on have been interesting as well. It's just so much better that I can't even describe it adequately.
Fuck FM radio. Fuck commercial radio and stupid censorship. Satellite is the evolution of the first ammendment of the US Constitution. It is WELL worth the $13 bucks a month.

And gas is really cheap at that flying J in Toledo! Fill up there always when I'd travel to Cleveland
