Texas is a big ass state. But I love it. Seriously, I wanna move here. There aren't many other places that I can drive into on a Friday. Drive all weekend, and not actually leave until Tuesday. Granted, I am going back and forth... but still.
Okay so I went like 3 miles into New Mexico today to pick up a load headed for Detroit. But rather than take the shortest route there (which would have had me going some very cool scenic roads through New Mexico), I've actually be routed to double-back the way I came (through Dallas and Little Rock) because I don't have an up-to-date New Mexico road tax permit. So rather than pay the extra cost per mile to that state, my company gave me the extra miles (read: pay) to take the longer way around. I've had a couple seriously good trips lately. I'll have 3300 miles over 6 days... which is just about the pace I like. Some truckers may want even more but frankly that is insane. This is giving me full-days (LEGAL) work. And best of all it's not a lot of fucking around with shippers and receivers every day.
I'm in Abilene, Texas tonight. Much nicer Flying J here than the one on the eastern side of El Paso... but I can forgive El Paso because the location was originally a shitty TA. (At least they had Idle Aire).
I'm even eating the buffet here. I usually pass on the buffet because... well... you know. But this place is very nice and clean all around. Good strong WiFi too unlike a few locations. Time for a shower and then just a little bit of Auto Assault (my current gaming addiction).
I had something else to talk about too, but I just can't remember right now. I'm sure it'll keep until later. EDIT: Yeah, I changed my account alias. Not sure why really. Nordic mythology FTW!
