Finished Michael Crichton's Prey.
Disturbing. And mostly so because even though it was a book of fiction, the scenario described (or one very similar in consequence) could happen quite easily. The convergence of nanotechnology, biogenetics, and computer science with... unexpected results.
The bottom line is this: humans ability to create far exceeds our ability to predict (and control) the consequences. If there is one thing we excel at, it is inventing new ways to kill ourselves. Anyhow, it wasn't exactly Pulitzer category fiction... but an enjoyable and eye-opening read.
Next I'm moving on to a four-pack of Anne Rice. Her Vampire Chronicles I guess they are called. It interests me lately... dunno why. Anyhow I got 4 books for $20 and that's a good deal.
Sold a thousand bucks of FDX stock today. Fuck it, it wasn't really growing much. I'd rather spend it on... uh... anything really. Maybe one of Severus's nice photographs. Or I noticed Eli had a Yoda lightsaber on her wish list. That's pretty fuckin' funny. And hey, the chick has my name so I can't help myself. Of course, I told Hope to make a wishlist and I see that she did so perhaps I'd better put my money where my mouth was. Hmm, that gives me dirty thoughts.
