Games.
The reason I enjoy them is quite simple, really. A good game is like a book. But instead of just reading along and being an outside observer of the events, you are the central focus. You are the main character in the story, and often your choices will change the outcome. Ever read those "choose your own adventure" books when you were a kid? Not exactly litterary greatness but certainly a fun passtime, and perhaps akin to what a good game is like. Surrounding you with audio and visual stimulation, immersing you in another world. And in some cases... creeping you out and scaring the crap out of you.
My latest obsession.
Well, perhaps "startling" is more appropriate to say than scaring. It's easy to startle someone by throwing something their way when it isn't expected. But the desired effect is still enjoyable. When you can have emotional responses to a game then it has succeeded in entertaining you.
The premise of this particular one is the (somewhat hidden) vampire scene in modern Los Angeles. The game begins as you are "Embraced" into this new world... and left to deal with it. The setting and the mood that it creates is incredibly intoxicating. I even decided to order some Anne Rice novels and really learn more about the lore.
Soundtrack of the day is Ministry - "Bloodlines". (Incidentally, a song they did just for the game, and the music is really one of the highlights of this experience).
