So I had a pretty awesome experience this Monday. My funk band was playing at the boom-boom room and having an above average show with a good turn out, especially for a Monday night. Across the street from the Boom-Boom Room is the Filmore, one of the larger venues in town.
This guy Stanton Moore who is a kick-ass funk drummer (formerly of Galactic) was having a show at the filmore the same night with an all-star band incluiding skerik, Brian Seegar, and Will Blades, all of whom are players I greatly respect and follow. If you don't know who these people are this story will not impress you as much:
Towards the end of our set I looked over and Will Blades had sat down in front of the B-3 for a tune and I was like Damn! I'm playing bass with Will Blades. On the next tune Stanton Moore walked up on stage along with Skerik and Brian Seegar and proceeded to sit in with us on a 20 minute cover of "pass the peas". It was amazing. Probably the greatest musical experience of my life thus far, the room was packed and I was playing bass for a bunch of jazz-funk heavyweights.
So yeah...life is good.
