UPDATE - me and some friends i met thru jt leroy's books are starting a website of our own to expose our art and deal with this hoax in a positive way. many of his old fans have been thru tremendous tragedy in our lives and will turn this very negative, cruel literary joke into something positive to serve our own passions.
the website will be called "Somewhere To Run To." I'll keep you all informed.........
i got this email this morning from a friend who found out the scoop on jt.
jt was a complete hoax, put together by this chick, Astor, her husband and friends. some of them did publicity, some wrote the books, while HUNDREDS of loyal fans shared dark childhood stories of abuse, thinking they had found a genuine artist who understood their pain.
I'M SICKENED BY THIS. i talked to this hoax on the phone, i have the conversation on tape because i was conducting an interview for a magazine. i kind of want to listen to it again, just to try and make sense out of something that can never make sense.......
"It's such a slap to the artists who really are toiling away to create meaning from the hardships of their lives," Tea said. "It turns the redemptive quality of a lot of writing into a total farce." - Michelle Tea, SF writer.
anyway,
with me, things are going very well. my writing is getting so much better. i've learned to take criticism and perfect my work in a way i thought i'd never be able to. and what i write is real. from one heart and one mind and one hand, all belonging to the same person.
i can't wait until march - The Strokes show, my bday and my new tattoo. looks like
ymonster will be doing it!!!
everyone should read "Kafka On The Shore" by Haruki Murakami, his work is as cool as his name sounds.
well i'm going away now, feelin kinda tired. last night at four in the morning we were awakened by a girl running down the hallway and screaming and someone else pounding on the wall. the entire fiasco lasted a few seconds and then abrupt silence took over. i have no idea what the ruckus was about. i'm sure just drunken silliness. but it was, like most things, fuckin' weird.
oh, and if anyone thinks i'm doing anything this weekend besides watching "six feet under," writing and drinking wine, you're nuts.
