I hate it when people cant take criticism on their art. At least when it comes to form. Symbolism and emotion is something that I think shouldnt be criticized at all; nothing is done without some sort of motivation, and even if the whole sentiment behind a piece is, gee, I sure do like puppies, thats reason enough to create art. Anyhow, back to criticism of formI see this all the time; someone will comment on the disproportion of a figure, for instance, and the artist will say, Oh, I meant to do that and give some fluffy explanation of why that mistake means something deep. Well, even if it was intentional, if its rendered in a way that makes it feel unbalanced or is otherwise aesthetically displeasing, then defending does no good. If it was intentionally done in a way that wouldnt be appealing to other people, then why display it somewhere for others to see? Well, I know exactly why. Some people just want to have their ego stroked without having to put much effort into deserving the praise. And those people are daft and should be shot. Im tired now. The end.
