last night i spun records at a club for the first time.
i was really nervous all day yesterday. by the time i got home from work i was about to puke so i started drinking beers. that always seems to cure whatever's ailing me. but i've learned from thorough research that i mix records much better sober than loaded... so i had to compromise. puking on the decks from anxiety would've been worse than blowing a few mixes. so i had a few beers and a cocktail to calm the nerves.
but it just wasn't my day. nothing went smoothly. the highlight was when one of my 4 gauge grommets popped off my ear in the shower and went directly into the drain. it didn't even hit the tub, a perfect shot. and it was the new one that i just bought to replace one i lost two weeks ago... "bad sign" i thought. i felt doomed.
so i went to the club and hoped for the best. things started out clumsy, sound problems, etc... somehow i did pretty good... not great but better than i expected. i know that i made more mixes than i blew and the dance floor was jumping when i finished. i played funky, thick, grungy breaks. even if my mixing wasn't spot on the tracks were sweet. it was cool as fuck to hear my favorite records on a real soundsytem. it was loud too. real loud.
next time i'll do better.
