This is a gross but exciting blog entry.

So, there I was talking on the phone with the consulting agency this morning about a project that will probably start Monday. The woman said "hold on, I'll be right back." I turned and whoosh my shoulder popped out of its socket. Slipped down some and well was just hanging out. I'm describing it a little flippantly. Lets just say it hurt, really, really badly. Anyway, when this kind of thing has happened in the past, I've been able to pop it back in fairly quickly or alternately it just seems to pop itself back in fairly quickly, except for about 8 years ago when it sublexated and hung out on my collarbone.

This wasn't something where I felt I could pop it back in and well there wasn't a life or death situation like in Lethal Weapon or anything, so I didn't feel the need to increase the amount of pain involved. Seriously, it hurt like an angry motherfucking lion with a beehive caught in its mouth that has just been shot in my face,

I called up my roommate to take me to the ER or my Docs offices and while I waited approximately 30 minutes with my shoulder just hanging, I broke a promise I made yesterday to not bother a particular person at all until next week. Talk about a bad first day of promising something. I really hope I can be forgiven for that. 30 minutes of excruciating physical pain qualifies as a good enough excuse right? Granted it only took 10 minutes for me to crack, still 10 minutes on the rack is pretty hardcore. I think.

Somewhere in there, I called back the consulting agency and sorted that out enough to where I'll be calling them in a bit and going from there.

As I waited alone, I kept focusing on happy things so as not to pass out, because there would be no way my roommate could lug me to the ER. I have to say I have some fantastically happy things that have happened in life to think about, when experiencing something like what happened.

Then I realized, what if it pops in again? I get to the Docs office and then there is just me saying it popped out. So, I took a picture.

If you're easily grossed out by injuries, you might not want to look under the spoilers.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Not the worst picture to look at, unless you concentrate on where the shoulder muscle part should be. And realize it is stretched in a very strange way. That little bump where the shoulder should be, is collar bone. The second pic is after it was back in.

I also called the docs office and they told me to go the ER to pop it back in, since well they couldn't do that there. My room mate arrived, and we headed out to the ER, and of course on the way there, my shoulder started twitching, I heard a loud click and pop, and my shoulder was back in place. An hour of excruciating pain that was making me practically delirious and then snap, crackle, pop the pain starts to decrease rapidly. Funny thing the popping back in part didn't hurt at all. Probably the adrenaline.

So, we headed to the Docs office instead of the ER, and I have a referral to an orthopedist, same guy who fixed my knee and turned me into a zombie by putting that dead persons ligament in there. I am very sore and a little bit dizzy as all the endorphins, adrenaline etc, wears off. The good news is, I'm okay. I mean I feel bruised up inside there, and it is a little bit nauseating, but I'm sure I'll be fine soon enough. Orthopedist will hopefully suggest something to fix it, so this does not happen again.

I went almost a full year without health insurance, and no Docs visits, no nothing. I get the insurance and since then, I've been using it much more than I ever expected to.

Anyway, back to work now.

I've had frequent should dislocations- 10+ and I had surgery to correct it 4 years ago. It's the worst pain I've ever experienced and I've had broken bones in the passed to. Get the surgery. Do it.
