Also, "This alcohol has a funny <u>affect</u> on me" ... "Your strategy was quite <u>effective</u> at winning the game."
Affect is much more emotive; ("affection" can help you remember this) its use regards the influence of a stimuli on an person/thing or even the appearance (false) of such.
Effect is a bit more scientific/literal; generally explains the result of something, which is why the whole "cause and effect" phrase actually helps you remember the meaning of the word.
