i had just came into work when this co-worker comes up to me and asks me if i've seen the dead dog outside by the railroad tracks. prompted by morbid curiousity and a desire to see if the dog had any tags, i went walking down the tracks to look at the body. all of a sudden a wonder years-esque voiceover kicked in and i felt so "stand by me"...
"so i when i came upon the dog's body on that bright and cool september day, i realized i was doing more than looking at a pet's carcass, i was growing. we all had grown since the beginning of our journey, waldo, dominique, petey, and me. but now we were shells of what we used to be. the kids that started this journey with a dark fascination had let loose their mortal coil and become young men in search of answers to questions they didn't know. "
anyway, the dog was a way dead black lab, with a collar, but no tags. it was on it's back and was severely decayed. it's eyelids were gone, as were it's lips, giving it a very startling wide-eyed sneer. a rack of sun bleached ribs lay exposed amongst a pathetic and worn draping of matted flesh and flies exploded around it like fireworks. poor guy.
